Ok ladies and gentlemen, this is pretty serious so no fun and games today. Today we are going to talk about the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). The TPP is the largest ever economic treaty and the nations involved make up about 40% of the GDP for the world. It is currently being negotiated behind closed doors by officials from the United States and 11 other countries such as Australia, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Peru, etc. This has all been in the works for the last 5 years, but just yesterday our POTUS was granted the power to “fast track” this through Congress. This “partnership” is all under the guise of economic trade, but this in reality effects matters of our everyday lives such as food safety, internet freedom, medicine costs and job offshoring. It will give power to the large corporations and allow them to operate solely under their own self interests. One provision will allow a company to sue the government if they pass a law that inhibits the corporations profit margins. So essentially if we try to pass a law to ban something and the company doesn’t want it to be banned, they can sue us as a country. It’s crazy. This all has been extremely secretive while it’s been going on. They are keeping it secretive and then distracting and dividing us with crap like the Confederate Flag debate and gay marriage. Everyone is sitting around arguing both sides of each story to each other, meanwhile your freedom is basically in process of being stripped away completely.
